The Miami Heat put up 86 first-half scores against the Memphis Grizzlies

The Heat claimed a decisive 146-114 victory against the Grizzlies in their first basketball match since player Terry Rozier was detained for suspected unlawful sports betting.

Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups was additionally detained in connection with a sweeping federal investigation into illegal gambling. The two individuals contest the claims.

However, the Miami team were not distracted as they scored eighty-six opening half scores to lead the Grizzlies by 39 at halftime, the largest halftime lead in the franchise's 37-year history.

Adebayo top-scored with 24 scores and later said Terry had the team's full backing.

"We support him. Full support," Bam stated. "We are with him all the way. That's our brother at the end of the day."

Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra added: "Rozier is a person who is very dear to everyone. He has made a beneficial influence on our team.

"Our thoughts are with him and support for him as he goes through this."

Portland also secured their initial match since the arrests, with Brazil-born Splitter stepping in as interim coach in Billups' non-attendance and guiding the squad to a convincing 139 to 119 win over the Warriors.

"Everyone experienced positive times with Billups and how he coached," Tiago said. "Our thoughts are with him and his family but we have a job to do."

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver 'Upset' by Recent Events

Speaking about the detentions for the initial occasion, NBA commissioner Silver said he was "very upset" by the incidents of the past few days.

"Nothing is more critical to the NBA and supporters than the integrity of the game," he told Amazon Prime. "Therefore I had a pit in my stomach. It was very upsetting."

Silver further mentioned an NBA investigation into Rozier's conduct in spring 2023, when there was "unusual wagering" in a game he played for the Hornets versus the Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"It was brought to our attention by the authorities and the betting companies," he continued.

"We then looked into the matter and were very transparent about it. And while there was that aberrational betting, we, honestly, found no evidence.

"Federal authorities has subpoena power... [it] can impose penalties, can take various actions that the NBA is unable to.

"So, we've been cooperating since then. Naturally, what they announced recently was an indictment.

"And two and a half years after, he has not been found guilty of anything, in justice to Rozier.

"Obviously, it appears unfavorable, but he's been put on administrative leave, and so it is a balance in this case between upholding rights and investigating."
