Three members of law enforcement perished and at least 15 others were hurt in an apparently intentional blast caused by gas at a farmhouse in Italy's north.

How It Happened

The explosion occurred as police and firefighters approached the residence close to the Verona region to enforce an eviction order for three siblings in their late 50s and mid-60s.

Each of the three victims who died belonged to the Italian military police.

Investigation Developments

A man and a woman were arrested at the location and one more individual who fled after the blast was apprehended shortly later. Each of them have been admitted to hospital.

The detonation could be audible approximately 5 kilometers away and images from the location revealed the structure left as a pile of rubble.

“This moment calls for sorrow,” said the Minister of the Interior Minister Piantedosi, who mentioned that efforts had been made to evict the three family members in the previous occasions.
